A man broke into an occupied residence in Echo Park on Monday and fled before officers arrived, police said.
Officers responded around noon to the 700 block of Alvarado Street after a man forced his way into a unit while someone was inside, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police established a perimeter, but the suspect had already fled.
Police described the suspect as a man in his 30s or 40s.
It was unclear whether anything was stolen.
Police are investigating the incident as a hot prowl burglary.
